THE GIVING TREE is another holiday tradition at House of Prayer. This year, we have chosen two groups as primary recipients: Emma’s Place and Gifts for Seniors. Starting at the Community Christmas Breakfast on Sat. 12/07/13, the Giving Tree will be decorated with gift request ‘ornaments,’ based on the ‘wish lists’ from some families at Emma’s Place (Maplewood). Choose the ornament you wish, purchase the item, and place the wrapped gift – with the original ornament as a tag — under the Giving Tree by 12/22/13. New, unwrapped items for Gifts for Seniors should be placed in the special collection barrel in the Narthex; shopping lists are there, too. County and community agency partners of Gifts for Seniors pick up gifts for their clients from the group’s seasonal operations center, then deliver them to seniors and spend time with them. Often, the best present of all is the presence of a caring person for an otherwise isolated senior. Since 1994, Gifts for Seniors has provided gifts and personal contact to more than 30,000 isolated seniors in the metro area. Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. [Proverbs 19:17]
